A Change of Scenery

Sometimes all you really need is a change of scenery. This past week the DH and I packed the car and travelled to the family bach in Taupo for the week. It was exactly what we all needed. A change of scenery, pace and a break in routine.

As well as relaxing and playing a lot of Fish and Snap, we did lots of cool things. We took the boys swimming twice. Both our boys are water babies and spent the entire time leaping of the side of the pool. They absolutely loved it but I must confess that after an hour and a half, my arms were aching from scooping them back up. We did a day trip to Rotorua (some pics below) and we went up the mountain and played in the snow with rubbish bags.

All in all it was actually a very cheap family holiday. All up about $550. Food, outings, petrol and accommodation included for 7 days. We were blessed with LOVELY weather all week. Coming home was definitely hard. I am already planning our next escape!

Warning: Lots of photos to come...

The evening view out the kitchen window. You can see the lake.

Ollie and Gus at Paradise Valley in Rotorua.

Spotting trout in the river.

Hand feeding dear.

Walking side by side.

Little lazy legs.

Max the lion. Hungry.

Lioness cub. So cute.

Trout swimming.

The sweetest little ducklings. Gus had a blast feeding these little guys. They seemed to like him too. So much so that they popped through the fence. Gus told them "hey, get back in your cage little duckys" and when they wouldn't... "oh alright then, c'mon little duckys". They followed him down the path.

Wallabies. Apparently found native in NZ too! That was news to me.

Hand feeding the goat.

Gus talking to Donkey. Professing his love.

It was money well spent in my mind. The boys were so good and loved every minute too. I'll post some snow pics in a separate post. And I also took my sewing machine and did some sewing... So I'll post some pics of that later too. It's definitely motivated me to plan another break... perhaps now I can finally plan our honeymoon....

Hope you've all had a lovely weekend!

  1. Sounds perfect! We were meant to be going to Rotorua this weekend, however, Chicken Pox put an end to that so now I can plan another holiday :)

  2. We went to that park when we were in Rotorua. It's so nice to see those friendly animals once more. I see little Ella is not in with the big lions yet. It's a great holiday destination for kids. The snow must have been great fun.

  3. Sounds like a great break! We took our girls to Paradise Valley a few years ago and it was well worth the visit back then. You were lucky to have good weather as well.

  4. Looks like your boys had a lot of fun! It's so neat to see the different types of animals that are in zoos in other countries! =)

  7. It sounds like you had a lovely, relaxing holiday - just as a holiday should be. :-) Look at how clear that water is! I didn't know Wallabies were native to NZ either.
